Jonathan
My beautiful boy
Ask Jonathan about Kaden and he will tell you that Kaden is annoying! That Kaden messes up his room and gets on his nerves. He wont tell you anything really inspirational about what having a brother with Down syndrome is all about. To Jonathan Kaden is just Kaden like Evan is just Evan.
It is watching my middle son that I can see the inspiration. His voice changes when he talks to Kaden. On Jonathan's IEP (he has ADHD) it is written about the compassion that he shows on a daily basis to other people with disabilities.
Jonathan is the center of our life. His sports involvments and extracurricular activities are family events. He likes having us all there cheering him on and he always rubs Kaden's head for luck.
I try to look at that beautiful face of his and think that many people feel I am doing him a huge injustice by raising his brother. They say Kaden having Down syndrome takes away from what I am able to give him.
Is my time compromised? Well yes honestly. Kaden does need more than what a child without Down syndrome needs. Yet it isn't more so than if we had another child, or if I chose to work outside them home. Now what would take away from what Jonathan is getting and learning for our world would be if he wasn't Kaden's brother. Then he would be missing a whole world of experiances that will shape him into the adult he will someday be. Right now Jonathan is a child and he has boy things to worry about it isn't really obvious how much he is learning from Kaden only some times when I watch a 6 year old show more love and compassion than most adults. When I watch a 6 year old say his prayers and hear him say
"God bless my brother Kaden he is a good one. God bless my brother Evan teach him a be good. God bless my pumpkins and I hope they grow so we can cut them up. God bless our family cause I love them. God bless Mommy and Daddy and dont let em take my game away no more. God bless me so I can be good and thank you for my playstation and thank you for baseball"
When I hear him tell his teacher than he is a Super Hero, because he to Kaden and Evan he really is. He is my 6 year old superhero, bugman, buddah belly , big boy and I love him more than words can ever tell.
